About Upton, MA
Upton is a suburban community in Worcester County in south central Massachusetts, 35 miles west of Boston and southeast of Worcester. The town has quick and easy access to the Mass Pike (I-90) and Interstate 495. Upton’s public high schools are Nipmuc Regional High School and Blackstone Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School. During the Industrial Revolution, the town was known as a producer of shoes, boots, and hats. One of the town’s most notable residents was Eli Whitney, inventor of the cotton gin. Upton prides its community on preserving its New England heritage and beautiful landscape yet still being able to advance business and the economy steadily. Today, the town is primarily a residential suburb, and a significant portion of Upton’s land area is protected as a state forest or by parcels purchased by the town for permanent conservation.
