Effective September 1, 2018, revisions to MA State Markings Regulation 540 CMR 2:22 will come into force. Customers covered under a MA Auto Policy class 30, including plumbers, carpenters, electricians, etc., may be impacted by these changes.
From Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 7 p.m. until Monday, March 26, 2018 at 8 a.m., the MA Registry of Motor Vehicles will be closed for a technology upgrade to meet federal security standards. During this period, non-public safety services will be unavailable, and no transactions will be processed.
Starting March 26, Massachusetts requires documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful presence for any driver’s license, ID, or learner’s permit renewal or issuance. Four documents are necessary to confirm your Social Security Number, Date of Birth, and Residency.
For those holding a CDL or CLP, note the amended Commercial Driver License standards known as the “CDL Permit Rule,” implemented by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Starting in July 2016, the Massachusetts RMV will enforce this regulation.
The MassDOT RMV has extended the deadline for CDL holders to submit self-certification information and a copy of the US DOT Medical Certificate to April 30, 2014, in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requirements.
As per 2012 Federal and State mandates, Commercial Driver’s License holders must notify their state’s RMV about their commerce type (interstate or intrastate) and medical certificate necessity. All CDL holders must self-certify by January 30, 2014, to comply with these requirements.
Since October 1, 2008, an annual enhanced Massachusetts Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspection has been mandated for single, full, or semi-trailers exceeding 3,000 pounds GVWR, as well as commercial vehicle/trailer combinations over 10,000 pounds GCVWR, and heavy-duty motor vehicles exceeding 10,000 pounds GVWR, including converter dollies.
